we must please and touch - Sometimes going to the theatre takes courage. There are these times when you get really close to the actors, when you can hear them breathe, when they talk to you. There is a connection, they touch you. You are brave, you open up. You let them touch you.

In the 1960s actor and director Jean-Louis Barrault described the essence of theatre as a human body moving in space, letting go, exposing himself to emotional and physical contact. It was not so much the story about to be told, but the tension between human subjects, between the performers, between the players and the audience that became important.

we must please and touch features three emerging theatre companies, Barrel Organ (Warwick), Reverend Productions (Oxford) and White Slate Theatre (Canterbury) physically exploring their art in Barrault's spirit.
